A popular taxi app has apologised after a promotional mishap saw some users across the country credited with hundreds of euro in error, with the money taken back soon after.

FreeNow customers were issued with an email this week promoting “weekly riddles” which, if solved, would award €200 to the first 100 people to get it right.

However, far more than 100 benefitted from the promotion, with many users taking to social media to joke that that FreeNow was indeed free now.

The riddle read: “I'm made of snow but never feel the cold. The answer to this riddle is a promo code worth €200 towards your next 10 trips."

It seems that all of those who inputted “snowman”, not just the first 100, had €200 credited to their account.

The promo, as well as the answer to the riddle, spread quickly on social media platforms, with countless users benefiting from the vouchers, however, these were clawed back by FreeNow soon after.

A spokesperson for FreeNow said a technical issue with the raffle resulted in vouchers being issued beyond the first 100 winners but would not say how many were impacted.

“We express our sincere apologies for any confusion or inconvenience caused to passengers as a result of this technical issue which has since been resolved,” they said.

The spokesperson said the first 100 raffle winners will receive their vouchers but anyone outside of this group has had their vouchers retracted.

The spokesperson said that any customers who were incorrectly allocated vouchers will be automatically entered into a new raffle.
