Now an annual tradition, each year Spotify Wrapped gives us some insight into listener habits, tying up the year’s most popular artists, songs, and podcasts into a neat (and sometimes embarrassing) bow — just in time for Christmas.

For some, it is a dreaded day where guilty pleasures are revealed for the world to see while for others, it is a chance to brag about how they really are their favourite artist’s biggest fan.

This year, Spotify listeners across Ireland and the rest of the world had a clear favourite.

According to the digital music service, Taylor Swift took the spot as the most-streamed artist in Ireland this year, followed by Drake. Globally, Swift was named as Spotify’s 2023 top artist, with more than 26.1 billion global streams since January 1 — followed by Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Drake, and Peso Pluma.

Back in Ireland, The Weeknd was the third most-streamed artist in 2023, followed by Kanye West and Ed Sheeran.

Looking to the most-streamed songs, ‘Flowers’ by Miley Cyrus came out on top for Irish listeners, with Dublin DJ Jazzy representing local talent at number two with her hit, ‘Giving Me’.

Meanwhile, ‘Miracle’ by Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris was the third most-streamed song followed by Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero’ and ‘Sprinter’ by UK rappers Dave and Central Cee.

Unsurprisingly, Taylor Swift took up three slots in 2023’s most-streamed albums, with 'Midnights' as number one, 'Lover' as number four, and '1989' as number five on the Irish Spotify Wrapped list.

'Harry’s House' by Harry Styles and 'SOS' by SZA were the only non-Taylor albums to make the cut.

Globally, ‘Flowers’ by Miley Cyrus also came out on top with ‘Kill Bill’ by SZA as the second most-streamed song, followed by ‘As It Was’ by Harry Styles.

Of course, it is not all about music. Podcasts are hugely popular and by the looks of things, we love homegrown talent here in Ireland. Vogue Williams and Joanne McNally’s My Therapist Ghosted Me was the second most popular podcast in Ireland this year with Tipperary duo The 2 Johnnies Podcast coming in at number three.

The top podcast in Ireland (and globally) this year was The Joe Rogan Experience with Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO at number four and Crime World at number five.
