Male pedestrian, 70s, killed in Laois crash

A man in his 70s has died in a crash involving a lorry in Co Laois.

The incident happened at approximately 4.55pm on Monday afternoon when a lorry collided with a pedestrian on Chapel Lane in Mountmellick.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 70s, was fatally injured in the collision. 

His body remains at the scene. The male driver of the lorry was uninjured. 

The road remains closed pending an examination of the scene Garda Forensic Collision investigators. Local diversions have been put in place.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for any witnesses.

Any road users who may have camera footage - including dash-cam - and who were travelling on Chapel Lane, N80, Mountmellick between 4.30pm and 5.00pm have been asked to make this footage available.
