Cork will be the first city to host The Secret Headliner, a new TV series highlighting the live music scene across Ireland.
Filmed for Virgin Media Television and scheduled for broadcast later in 2024, The Secret Headliner will see three major Irish artists perform a secret gig in a small local venue in three towns or cities across the country.
Kicking off in Cork on Thursday, December 7, the Crane Lane Theatre will host this first event, giving local gig-goers the opportunity to see one of three high profile artists in a more intimate setting.
A local support act has also been handpicked to play, with local band, Simple Things revealed to perform the Cork leg of the series.
They are a Kerry band, however band member Shane Kennedy lived in Cork for four years and studied at MTU. His mother is originally from Cork too. The other bandmates that make up the act include Dylan O Sullivan and Kealan Cahill.
In the wake of the pandemic, many music venues and musicians have been so badly impacted, with much of the live music scene still recovering. Proud of its musical heritage, Ireland's music community has always looked after its own.
As a tribute to the grassroots music scene and in support of upcoming, emerging talent, the anonymous major headliner has chosen to play in a space and venue where it all begins. Following on from the Cork gig, two more concerts will be filmed in other Irish centres.
The mystery headliner will only be revealed when they take to the stage on the evening of December 7 at the Crane Lane.
The event is free, with limited tickets available on a lottery basis from tshaudience@indiepics.ie
