Irish tips: Better Days Ahead can make amends at Fairyhouse

LAYING DOWN THE LAW: Mister Policeman made a winning debut for Willie Mullins when scoring at Cork in April. He makes his first start over the larger obstacles at Fairyhouse on Friday. Picture: Healy Racing

A faller on his seasonal debut at Down Royal, the Gordon Elliott-trained Better Days Ahead should make amends in the Sign Up To GavinLynch.com Maiden Hurdle on Friday’s rescheduled card in Fairyhouse.

The Milan gelding, sent off at 8-15 for his hurdling bow, looked poised to score when crashing at the third last flight in Down Royal, before stable-companion Zefiro Dodville came from off the pace to land the spoils.

The Bective Stud-owned gelding had done everything right on that occasion and looks a potentially smart sort. He should prove the point here.

Winner of a point-to-point for Warren Ewing, the selection was turned over by Carnfunnock, when 1-3 for his racecourse debut at Down Royal before landing a bumper at this venue last December. A line can be put through his disappointing effort in the Cheltenham Bumper on his final start of last season.

Friday’s trip, just short of three miles, will play to the strengths of Better Days Ahead and he’s a confident choice to beat the consistent Kalanisi Flash and Insoucient Dallier, runner-up to the selection’s stable-companion Will Do in Sligo last time.

The chasing debut of the Willie Mullins-trained Mister Policeman, in the Irish National Hunt CLG Beginners Chase, promises to be the highlight of Friday’s action.

Successful over hurdles for David Cottin at Fontainebleu, this highly-regarded five-year-old triumphed on his only start for Closutton when landing a conditions hurdle at Cork last April, beating then 142-rated stable-companion Cash Back and the ill-fated Sole Pretender.

Trainer Mullins rates this fellow very highly so he should take plenty of beating here before stepping into graded company.

David Christie appears to hold the key to the INHSC Supporting Point-To-Points Hunters Chase, running both top-weight Ask D’man and Global Assembly.

And preference is for the latter, a dual point-to-point winner, the choice of Barry O’Neill and weighted to reverse last January’s Clonmel form with Liam Burke’s Grange Island.

We also have Friday night action in Dundalk where Donnacha O’Brien might complete a double with The Old Nine and Whisperinthewind, both ridden by stable apprentice Paddy Harnett, in the two-year-old maiden action.

An eye-catching third to Formal Display om his recent course and distance debut, The Old Nine has Dermot Weld’s Taraj to beat in the colts’ event.

And, placed in both starts, including a second to previously luckless Sweetest, Whisperinthewind is the obvious form choice in the fillies’ race, although £750,000 purchase Madam Celeste, representing Ger Lyons, is a potential threat.
