The HSE has applied for retention permission for development works at the former Blarney Hotel and Golf Resort in Cork.

The changes would see the former hotel repurposed as a nursing home.

The development will consist of the retention of extensions and alterations to the former hotel. The HSE is also seeking permission for a change of use to convert the former hotel in a community nursing home unit. In 2021, the HSE bought the hotel for a reported €3m, a fraction of the €25m spent to build the golf resort in 2004.

The former hotel in Blarney is eight miles from Cork City centre, and comprises 61 guest bedrooms in its current format.

Elsewhere a developer is seeking permission for works at a warehouse in an IDA Industrial Estate in Macroom, Co Cork.

Edgefield Property Investments Limited has submitted a planning application to Cork County Council for a proposed warehouse distribution unit, incorporating office accommodation and new site entrances. Internal estate roads, site levelling and contouring, and the construction of a security kiosk are all proposed too, as are 52 parking spaces and a bicycle shelter.

The works are to be located at the IDA Industrial Estate at Hartnett’s Cross.

In Limerick, meanwhile, the planned registration of the Analog Devices building in Raheen Business Park has been delayed due to an appeal.

An Bord Pleanála is now set to review the proposal, which had been green lit by Limerick City & County Council in October.

The proposal from the US semi-conductor manufacturer includes the partial demolition of the existing industrial building.
