Thurles tips: Will Do can build on Sligo success

WILL POWER: Will Do made the perfect start to life over obstacles when winning at Sligo last month. He could prove a tough nut to crack on Thursday's Thurles card.  Picture: Healy Racing

The highlight of Thursday afternoon’s card in Thurles is the chasing debut of Klassical Dream in the opener, the Download The BetVictor App Irish EBF Beginners’ Chase.

A winner on the Flat in his native France, and eight times over hurdles, seven of which were at Grade One level, he has left it late to make the switch to chasing but that is not unusual for Willie Mullins runners.

More importantly, he finished last season in great form, winning a Grade One at Punchestown and then finishing a fine third to the exciting Theleme at Auteuil. The ground drying out will be to his liking, but it shouldn’t make too much difference as he is of a different grade to his rivals, and it is just a matter of him putting in a clear round.

There are chases to be won with Gold Bullion, who finished third to Pause Of Power on his chasing debut, at the Harvest Festival, Listowel. He looked as though he needed the run that day and is entitled to be better for it, even though it has been 64 days since he last ran. The other horse worth considering for a place in the frame is Digby, who ran up behind Flanking Maneuver on his only start to date over fences.

The nap goes to Will Do, who can follow up his Sligo victory when he contests the BetVictor Proud To Support Irish Racing EBF Novice Hurdle. He didn’t look to be blessed with speed when placed in his first four outings in bumpers, but he got his turn on his final start of last season.

An imposing sort, he always looked likely to be better when sent over obstacles, and his Sligo run, which was his seasonal debut, certainly suggested that to be the case. He made the hurdles look small, and duly galloped away to win as he pleased. This is a tougher assignment, but he has loads of scope for improvement and can take this at the expense of Getaway Charlie.

The latter gained a long overdue victory under rules when winning a Punchestown Handicap Hurdle most impressively. The form of the race received a nice boost when runner-up Stuzzikini bolted up in a similar race next time out, at Clonmel. It is likely there is much more to come from Getaway Charlie but Will Do is going to be a tough nut to crack this time.
