Limerick hosts Tuesday’s action in Ireland and Glen Kiln can get punters off to the best possible start by taking the DMC Atlantic Maiden Hurdle. This race, as most on the card are, is restricted to professional and claiming riders who have not ridden more than 10 winners under National Hunt rules this year, and Ryan Treacy can put one on the board early by getting Harry Kelly’s promising four-year-old home in front.

Last time out, in Mallow, the selection was having his first run for this stable when contesting what looked like a decent maiden hurdle and while he was beaten 11 lengths into fourth place behind smart dual-purpose performer Flamborough, it was a fine effort. What was most pleasing was the way he raced to the line. As well as indicating that he has the right attitude, it also suggested he would appreciate a longer trip, which he gets on Tuesday.

This race, which is restricted to horses which have had at least three runs under National Hunt rules and never finished in the first three, is a significant drop in grade for the promising sort and he can come out on top. Kilbarry Saint, Aegirine, and Trackman Tommy have shown enough promise to suggest there are races to be won with them and they all hold place claims.

The second race, the Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle, looks competitive but Chiefs Kingdom can land the spoils for Paul Nolan and jockey Conor Smithers. Since making his track debut in late November 2022, he has picked up a nice bit of experience over hurdles and last time out, on his first run for almost four months, he ran a fine race to finish runner-up to Croke Park.

He wasn’t in the same league as the winner, but that one gave the form a boost by winning the Grade Three Monksfield Novice Hurdle on Sunday at Navan. This is a much easier task and as he is entitled to better for the Clonmel run and showed that he copes well with testing ground, he can earn a much deserved first victory.

Champagne Admiral and Ballycallan King can give him most to think about.
