Imelda May paid a visit to her friend and fellow singer Shane MacGowan over the weekend as the Pogues star receives treatment in hospital.

MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke shared a picture to X (formally Twitter) of the Fairytale of New York singer with May, telling her followers that her husband was “so happy” to see the singer over the weekend.

Imelda May reshared the image of her “darlin’ Shane” adding that it was “so good” to see him.

In an update on Friday, MacGowan’s wife informed her followers that her husband — who turns 66 on Christmas Day — was “feeling much better”.

“I am so grateful to everyone who is willing him to get home for the Christmas,” she said.

The Pogues singer has been in a wheelchair full-time since 2015 and has been in hospital since June.

The visit from May comes after MacGowan praised Taylor Swift’s boyfriend for his rendition of Fairytale of New York.

NFL star Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce recorded the song for the Philadelphia Eagles Christmas album, changing the title to ‘Fairytale of Philadelphia’.

Resharing a clip of the pair singing, MacGowan said: “Tell them I am knocked out,” alongside a thumbs-up emoji.

The song hit number one on iTunes.
