Leona Maguire sits five shots off the lead after a opening round 68 at the LPGA season-ending CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples Florida.
Maguire had a bogey on the fourth but made a recovery with a birdie on the fifth, sixth and eighth holes to go out in 34 shots.
Two more birdies on the thirteenth and seventh left Maguire with a four-under-par 68 for the day five shots behind leaders Nasa Hataoka and Ruoning Yin.
Hakaota hit a flawless round with nine birdies and no dropped shot and held the club lead until Ruoning Yin matched her round, both finishing with a nine-under 63.
Australia's Minjee Lee is one shot behind on 64 while Sweden's Anna Nordqvist shot a seven-under 65.
Lilia Vu returned to number one in the world rankings after her win in The Annika last week and moved within touching distance in the CME Globe season rankings of Celine Boutier. Vu finished two under as Boutier was three under.
