The ieBusiness Podcast: Bob Savage on his 35 years with Dell

In the latest episode of The ieBusiness Podcast, vice president regional CIO for EMEA and Cork site leader Bob Savage talks to Cáit Caden

Bob Savage joined Dell Technologies as an engineer almost 40 years ago and is currently the vice president regional CIO for EMEA and Cork site leader.

Over the years he has seen the business environment change in Ireland both for multinationals and indigenous firms and has been central to this evolution as part of Dell and a board member of Enterprise Ireland.

“I’m passionate about what I do. I hope there’s people there to remind me that if I get complacent please throw me out,” said Mr Savage.

In the latest episode of The ieBusiness Podcast, in association with PwC, Mr Savage talks to business journalist Cáit Caden about some of the highs and lows he has experienced during his long career.

A significant low point Mr Savage said has been losing people in the company whether that’s through redundancies, retirements or illness.

Touching on the tech slowdown, which impacted Dell and led to almost 7,000 jobs being cut at the firm worldwide, he said that many of these people will use their experience with large firms to go on to create their own businesses.

He also discussed some of the new challenges facing businesses.

In one example, he said he does not see the chronic skills shortage as an “insurmountable” problem for companies that invest in upskilling.
