MIDLETON CBS made it three wins from three as Doon's Scoil na Trionóide Naofa campaign ended in agony at Kilmallock on Wednesday (1-17 to 1-16).

The east Cork side were already through to the knockout stages, but having grabbed a lead goal via Lisgoold's James O'Leary just before the break to give them a 1-6 to 0-8 interval edge, they powered on in the final quarter to rebuff Doon's third-quarter surge and win by the minimum.

Midleton outscored their opponents 0-9 to 0-3 in the last 14 minutes with Daniel Murnane (free), Patrick Walsh and Dylan McCarthy putting them in firm control.

Killeagh's McCarthy finished with 0-5, three of them from play with his club-mate Barry Walsh adding 0-3.

Oisin Holmes (Murroe-Boher) was Doon's leading marksman with 0-6, Tadhg Hourigan grabbing their goal.

Though they won no game and took only a point from their three group ties, their -4 scoring difference showed how competitive Doon were in each outing.

Midleton CBS's three wins ensure they go directly into the quarter-finals of this year's Dr Harty Cup.

Joining them in the last eight are Limerick's Ard Scoil Ris who also finished the group phase with three wins from three. In Bansha, they were too good for De La Salle Waterford, 0-24 to 2-9.

Shane Power's goal gave De La Sale a 1-8 to 0-10 half time lead but a powerful second period from Ard Scoil, scoring ten unanswered points, put the issue beyond doubt.

Clonlara's Michael Collins finished with 0-7. Passage's Thomas Carey top-scored for De La Salle with 1-7.

The third of the pre-qualified schools for the last eight were Thurles CBS and they put 1-31 on Youghal's Pobalscoil na Trionoide (2-14) in Bishopstown.

If Youghal's Jayden Casey was one of the game's shining stars, Thurles were a far more balanced outfit with David Costigan (1-6) from Moycarkey Borris), Holycross Ballycahill's Robbie Ryan (0-9) and Thurles' Cillian Minogue (0-7) racking up 1-22 between them.
