Planners in Waterford have approved the revamp of a well-known city hotel.
Treacy’s Hotel, on Merchants Quay, in the city, had proposed the development of a new children’s swimming pool on its ground floor.
It proposed the alteration of changing rooms to accommodate the development.
It also proposed the change of an apartment suite to allow three new en-suite bedrooms to be developed on the third floor, changes on the fourth floor to facilitate other room adjustments, and the change-of-use from a spa to a commercial lounge space on the ground floor.
Planners at Waterford City and County Council have now approved the plans.
Meanwhile, a development of new homes in the Cork village of Dripsey is free to proceed, after a planning appeal.
Hunol Developments Limited has been granted permission by An Bord Pleanála to develop the homes at Model Village, Deeshart (townland) in Dripsey, 19km west of Cork City.
Cork County Council had earlier approved the scheme, but a third-party objection was referred to the appeals board.
The site is accessed via a residential estate named Dysart Woods.
The proposed development initially included 30 homes, but this was revised to 18 after a request for further information by the council. This reduced application has been approved.
The appeal, submitted by a resident of a nearby estate, raised concerns about the proximity and height of some buildings, and noted the potential impacts on existing properties.
Elsewhere, a developer has applied to build a five-storey apartment building in the centre of Cork City.
