Second half surge sees 14-man Chorca Dhuibhne past Coláiste Chríost Rí

Sean O'Cuinn, Chorcha Dhuibhne tackled by Chriost Rí's Aaron Hegarty and Colm Molloy and in the Corn Ui Mhuiri game in Killarney on Wednesday.

Corn Uí Mhuirí Group 1: Corca Dhuibhe 1-16 Coláiste Chríost Rí 0-5

PS Chorca Dhuibhne turned this Corn Ui Mhuiri tie on its head in the second half as Coláiste Chríost Rí were demolished in a second-half romp for the Dingle boys at Lewis Road.

That's despite Pobalscoil being reduced to 14 in the opening minute of that second period, with Coláiste Chríost Rí only managing one point after the break.

The West Kerry side were inspired by outstanding centre back Sean Ó Cuinn along with JJ MacLiam and Cathal Ó Dufaigh while Paudie MacGearailt cut loose at midfield and the PS Chorca Dhuibhne attack did the rest against a defensive Chríost Rí side.

Dingle will still kick themselves about the last second goal they conceded last week that cost them victory over Coachford College and they must now take down a powerful Mercy Mounthawk side next week to have any chance of advancing to the knockout stages.

The first half was cagey with Chríost Rí dropping 14 behind the ball. Chorca Dhuibhne found it difficult to score with the ball being turned over and passes going awry.

PS Chorca Dhuibhne led 0-6 to 0-4 at half time with both Cian Ó Cinnéide and Cian MacGearailt kicking 0-3 apiece while Theo Dorgan, Cian O’Sullivan, Evan Malone and Billy O’Neill replied for Coláiste Chríost Rí.

In the opening minute of the second half PS Chorca Dhuibhne lost their fullback Jack O’Neill who received a straight red card for kicking out at an opponent and it looked as if Coláiste Chríost Rí would grab the initiative.

Instead PS Chorca just moved into top gear and Coláiste Chríost Rí faded completely. The Dingle side added 1-10 to 0-1 for the Cork school with Cian MacGearailt getting the goal in the 51st minute to give his side a 1-10 to 0-5 lead.

Coláiste Chríost Rí could not work the ball out of defence with the extra man as the Dingle lads turned them over with alarming regularity and it was all too easy in the final analysis.
