Premature babies undergoing treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit at Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza Strip were relocated to another section of the hospital.

After Israel targeted the solar panels at Al-Shifa Hospital and aimed at the intensive care unit and maternity ward, the neonatal intensive care unit ceased operations due to insufficient electricity.

Due to the total embargo imposed on the region since the beginning of the conflict, hospitals in the area have been challenging conditions.

Hundreds of patients, including dozens of new born babies, some of them premature, remain trapped as fighting continues around the Gaza Strip’s largest hospital, where thousands of civilians have sought shelter.

“Six premature babies and nine injured people at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) died today as a result of the power outage,” Mohamed Abu Slima told Anadolu on Monday.

“They all died as a result of Israel’s refusal to allow fuel for the hospital,” Abu Slima said. “There are still 33 premature babies at the hospital."
