One of the country’s best known hotels has received planning permission for an extension for new rooms.

The Aghadoe Heights Hotel in Killarney has been granted permission by Kerry County Council for the provision of a new four-storey extension to its rear.

Comprising some 2,060 sq m, it will allow for the provision of 30 additional hotel bedrooms and ancillary spa storage and plant space.

The development at the five-star hotel will increase its total number of bedrooms from 74 to 104.

The works will also include a single-storey spa extension to the front of the hotel, as well as an outdoor pool, which will primarily comprise a hydro-pool of 8 x 4.5 metres.

Under the development, the overall hotel size will increase from 8,095 sq m to 10,245 sq m.

Meanwhile, planning permission has been granted for a major housing development in Killarney.

KPH Construction has been granted permission by Kerry County Council for the construction of 249 new homes in Upper Park Road, Killarney.

The development includes a range of house type, including 117 three-bed houses, six four-bed houses, and two five-bed houses. There are some 68 two-bed apartments, 38 one- bed apartments, and 18 two-bed houses.

All are two-storeys.

The apartments include balconies and / or ground floor terraces, and there is an allocation for public open space in the development too.

A two-way cycle path and new footpaths, pedestrian access points, and other landscaping is also included in the scheme.

The developer has also included provision for a two-storey creche of some 417 sq m in gross floor space space, some 529 car parking spaces ( 510 for the houses and 19 for the creche), as well as 352 bicycle spaces.
