€3,900 top price at Munster Angus Breeders Autumn Sale

Buoyant trade saw a top price of €3,900 at the Munster Angus Breeders Autumn Sale, with buyers from as far as Leitrim & Kildare

Taking place at Kilmallock Mart on Saturday November 4, the event had an overall clearance of 70%, with an average sale price of just under €2,500, and prices in excess of €3,000 achieved for six animals. Four and five star in-calf heifers averaged €2,850, with maiden heifers averaging €2,400, and bulls €2,700.

Organisers reported "record pre-sale interest".

"The cattle offered at the sale were of top quality where all entries were pre-inspected, genomic tested and animals certified in-calf or fit for breeding," a spokesperson said.

Judge John Halloway from Mullingar selected Mount U Orchid from the herd of James Kelly Ennis as show champion.

The stylish December '21 heifer is a daughter of Coneyisland Rocky. However, she went unsold as she did not meet her reserve on the day.

Reserve champion went to Clara V1147 Pluto, from the herd of Dan & Rose Murphy, a March '22 Incalf daughter of Clara Thorp was sold for €3,000 to an established herd in Leitrim.

The top price of the sale of €3,900 went to Michael Sheehan for Lot 28 Luddenmore Evening Tinge Y580. This September '22 maiden heifer is a daughter of Keirbeath Karma, and her maternal bloodlines are from the Mercury Tinge family. 

Evening Tinge was sold to a well-established herd in Cork Next highest on the day was another maiden heifer at €3,700 went to Aidan Crowley for Ardglass V Lena, this July '22 heifer was five-star across all indices.

€3,000 was achieved for three more lots, with one female and two males. The first was Curraghclough Unity from the herd of Gerard Coughlan Bandon. This February '21 in-calf heifer boasting five stars across all the indices is a daughter of Drumcrow Power punch.

The next to achieve €3,000 were both bulls from the herd of Keith Vickery Roscarbery, with both bulls being sons of Rawburn Boss Hogg. Lot 36 Carbery Vermont was sold to a newly established pedigree herd in Kerry, with Lot 37 Carbery Varden also being sold into Kerry.

A spokesperson added: "The committee would like to thank Denis Barrett, our auctioneer, Denis and all the team at Kilmallock mart, Fergal O’ Gorman for photography, and all our stewards. We would like to thank all exhibitors for the quality of cattle presented and we wish all the purchasers the best of luck with their cattle."
