Ballinora booked their place in the final four of the Co-Op SuperStores Cork JAHC on a busy weekend of junior football and hurling county championship action.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh was the venue for Muskerry champions Ballinora’s comprehensive quarter-final victory over Clonakilty on Sunday.

Utilising a strong wind and Alan O’Shea’s superbly finished 11th minute goal, Ballinora built a commanding 1-13 to 0-5 interval lead.

Eoin Ryan kept the West Cork side in touch from frees but Clonakilty needed goalkeeper Shane Collins to produce a series of top class saves either side of the interval.

It was 1-17 to 0-8 heading into the final quarter as Ballinora midfielders Tommy Burns and James Byrne kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Mark White, Brian White and David Lowney found their range during Clon’s best spell but Ballinora maintained a healthy advantage thanks to late Conor Quirke, Andrew O’Sullivan and Jack Twohig efforts. A one-sided contest ended 1-23 to 0-11 in the Muskerry side’s favour.

Nemo Rangers will be Ballinora’s opponents in the JAHC semi-finals following a high-scoring 3-21 to 4-12 defeat of Belgooley at Páirc Uí Rinn.

Shane Horgan finished with 1-12 of the winners’ total and netted the game’s opening goal late in the first half. It was 2-9 to 0-7 at the short whistle after Ronan Dalton raised Rangers’ second green flag.

Admirably, Belogooly redoubled their efforts and got back in the game after Ryan Long found the net early in the second period. Conor O’Donovan added another goal shortly before Long’s second green flag.

Shane Horgan steadied Nemo nerves from placed sliotars prior to Trevor Horgan finding the net 15 minutes from the end. The Trabeg club held on for a hard-earned victory.

Whoever emerges from the Nemo and Ballinora semi-final will face the winners of Carraig na bhFear or Harbour Rovers in this year’s JAHC decider. The latter defeated Newmarket 1-15 to 0-14 in Glantane.

Darragh O’Brien’s opening half goal proved a tight game’s decisive score as Rovers led 1-9 to 0-8 at the interval. Newmarket’s Donal Hannon finished with 0-8 but it wasn’t enough to prevent a narrow defeat.

Dylan O’Sullivan’s first half goal helped Inniscarra overcome Bantry Blues to reach the Cork JBHC semi-finals last Saturday. Inniscarra registered a 2-21 to 0-15 victory on the same weekend Douglas outgunned Newmarket 1-25 to 1-10 to reach the last four.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh’s 4G pitch was the venue for Valley Rovers and Killeagh’s JBHC quarter-final clash under floodlights on Sunday evening. Killeagh were two points ahead at the break before a Bill Hawkes goal drew Valley’s level, 1-9 to 0-12, early in the second period.

The East Cork side were not to be denied however and reeled off a flurry of scores to win 3-21 to 1-11. Fermoy will face Inniscarra and Douglas will take on Killeagh in this year’s JBHC semi-finals.

In the Bon Secours Cork junior A football county championship, Ballygarvan setup a semi-final meeting with Mayfield by squeezing past Killavullen 1-10 to 1-9 at Páirc Uí Rinn.

Castlemagner will take on Canovee in the second JAFC semi-final after the latter netted five goals to see off Lisgoold. Eoghan Lehane, Dara Cronin, James Moynihan, Mark Healy and Darren Moynihan raised green flags to copperfasten Canovee’s victory. In the same competition, Castlemagner were pushed all the way by Barryroe before emerging 2-10 to 1-11 victors in Macroom.

Beara club Garnish had eight points to spare over Lismire in a 2-10 to 1-7 Bon Secours Cork junior B football county championship win on the Páirc Uí Chaoimh 4G pitch on Sunday.

Goleen overcame Dungourney 1-9 to 1-5 in Kilmurry and will next face Garnish in the next round.
