The newest model from OneOdio, the OpenRock S, offers an alternative to more popular earbuds with buds that slide into your ear canal. These earbuds come as successors to the OpenRock Pro and bring many improvements. The most striking aspect is their open-air conduction technology, which sets them apart. Because of the open-fit design, which keeps the ears from being blocked wearers are aware of their surroundings whether riding a bike, walking, or jogging.

Design and comfort

The charging case is long, slim and round but much larger than your typical earbuds case. The case has a USB-C port for charging, but wireless charging isn’t supported.

The large oblong case is necessary for the large earphones which wrap over the top of your ears. The ends of the OpenRock S are where the speakers and electronics are housed. Each earbud weighs 12g, but thanks to their design, I found them incredibly comfortable to wear, even for long periods.

Features and performance

The OpenRock S is equipped with AI-powered noise-cancelling technology for improved call quality. They can capture and isolate the user's voice while effectively filtering out ambient noise.

They also include dual-mic noise reduction and beam-forming tech, enabling wearers to stay immersed in their audio even amidst external noise, making them perfect for outdoor fitness enthusiasts.

The earbuds have intuitive touch controls for audio playback, calls, and voice assistants.

Sound delights

The OpenRock S features a dynamic audio algorithm which ensures impressive sound quality across various music genres. In layman's terms, external speakers point directly into your ear canals. This provides a more open and spacious sound that I find pleasing. One of the difficulties with using this technique is losing volume and bass. OneOdio created and patented their TubeBass Technology to combat this. The result is a remarkable acoustic experience using 12.2mm dynamic drivers to enhance bass and musical rhythm. Of course, there’s no noise isolation, and while the bass is impressive for an open design, it’s not as good as can be achieved with the best in-ear buds.

Verdict

The OneOdio OpenRock S earbuds have an innovative design, good call capabilities, exceptional battery life, and superb sound quality, making them an excellent choice for those who don’t enjoy or find in-ear buds comfortable.
