Joanne Mooney’s colourful craft at Hen’s Teeth

Joanne Mooney has almost 45,000 followers on Instagram who love her colourful approach to life.

We love her approach to interiors, her recent ‘Make something out of nothing’ videos with her mum and her eye-catching punch needle artwork. Mooney brings her Punch Needle Extravaganza to Hen’s Teeth Gallery in Dublin next month with sponsorship by DFS.

The weekend of the 10th to the 12th of November will include an exhibition of Mooney’s punch needle art pieces as well as punch needle workshops to give others tips on how to master the craft.

The weekend also has a charitable element with opportunities to donate to Alone and 10% of all proceeds from the exhibition going to this brilliant charity for older people.

Mario Rosenstock and friends at The Everyman

Best known for his timely comic impressions of public figures from politicians to TV personalities, Mario Rosenstock is one of Ireland’s most well-loved comedians and entertainers.

Fans of Rosenstock’s acclaimed Gift Grub series are in for a treat at The Everyman Cork next Saturday night as he brings his uncanny impersonations and on-the-money satire to the stage with St. Finbarr’s GAA, alongside special guest comedians Tadhg Hickey and Cornelius Patrick O'Sullivan.

Expect a good dose of mockery, slagging and camaraderie as the three amigos take to the stage for a great night.

Crafty mugs and lovely linens by Made Local

Design & Crafts Council Ireland recently launched their annual Made Local campaign - designed to highlight many of the beautiful, well made and surprisingly affordable products designed and made by craftspeople across Ireland.

At the launch of the event, we spotted some beautiful pieces for the home including these fab mugs by Dundalk ceramicist Etaoin O’Reilly (€25).

Perfect for tea, coffee or a warming hot chocolate, these mugs will add a little bit of tactile luxury to your everyday life and also make lovely presents for the tea or coffee drinker in your life.

Other pieces for the home that caught our eye were beautiful table linens by Jennifer Slattery and Stable of Ireland, little trinket bowls with gold embellishment by Danu Ceramics and lovely wooden bowls by Clover Woodcraft.

Wasabi mayo with a Kilkenny kick

If you love Japanese food you may know that what’s usually sold as ‘wasabi’ outside of Japan - the hot green paste served with sushi and sashimi - is often a fake wasabi made with horseradish and green food colouring.

Irish brand Too Savage has harnessed the power of real wasabi for its new Wasabi Mayo (€5.95) - using wasabi grown not in Kyoto but in Co. Kilkenny by Pat Fitzgerald of Beotanics specialists in rare and hard-to-grow ingredients.

Too Savage’s tasty condiment is vegan and gluten-free with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

Great with sushi, seafood and sambos, it is the latest addition to the range which includes a Spicy, a Curry and a Smoked Garlic Mayo.

  • Available in specialist stores nationwide including The Asia Market and Fallon & Byrne as well as at toosavage.ie.
