Tots to Teens: Bucket-list chocolate factory tour and free Culture Night fun

Wilde Irish Chocolates in Clare offers families the chance to see just how chocolate is made

HAS there ever been a child who hasn’t dreamt of visiting a chocolate factory, just as Charlie Bucket did when he won the golden ticket to see Willie Wonka?

Wilde Irish Chocolates in Clare offers families the chance to make this dream come true. Visitors of all ages are welcome to take a free tour of its factory, see just how chocolate is made, and put questions to the people who make it.

As an extra special treat, they can also take part in the Build Your Own Chocolate Bar Experience, available between 11am and 4pm, Monday to Saturday throughout the year.

It costs €8.50 per person and over the course of 30 minutes, it involves participants creating their very own customised chocolate bar.

Board games are a great way of having fun together as a family, but they don’t usually offer much opportunity to be physically active. This isn’t true of Antics, a new game from Gosling Gifts and Games in Cork.

This lively and energetic game involves far more than simply sitting around a table. During its average 30-minute run time, you can expect to get up to all sorts of antics.

There are knowledge antics where you’ll be tested on your general knowledge and silly antics like pretending you’re the President of Ireland.

There are also tricky antics such as standing up, putting your hands behind your back, and having to guess three objects in your hands.

The game is for two to six players aged eight and up. It costs €20.

It’s available from goslinggames.ie and will soon be stocked by retailers nationwide.

Breastfeeding is an emotive issue for mums and mum-to-be. And there can be complications, such as cracked nipples and never-ending cluster feeds. Later, there’s weaning, which requires knowing when and how to stop.

Danielle Facey, aka @thebreastfeedingmentor on Instagram, is a British-based breastfeeding wellness and weaning specialist who aims to empower mothers to breastfeed on their terms for as long as they choose.

She has 99,200 followers and it’s no wonder — as her account offers a huge amount of information and support, from everything on the best clothes to wear while breastfeeding to how to continue when you return to work.

Treat the family to a night out to remember in your local town or village this Friday, September 22. For one night only, communities across Ireland will celebrate Culture Night, with free events for young and old.

In Cork’s Opera Lane, the Wobbly Circus Walkabout characters Lady Longbottom and Clown on a Bike will stage a circus show followed by a juggling workshop.

In Cahir, Co Tipperary, the Rockwell Music Academy has invited families to attend a special Countdown to Bedtime event in their pyjamas.

In a dimly lit room with comfortable seating, they will introduce children to a wide range of musical instruments before serenading them to sleep with some of their favourite lullabies.

Meanwhile, at the Hang Out with Sparkcatchers performance in Tuam, Co Galway, two extraterrestrial creatures known as Sparkcatchers are expected to emerge from a crashed comet.

They will need families to help them build a new comet and to keep them company by singing songs, telling stories and creating art as they do so.
